Passé Composé vs Imparfait Mastery Bank - 40 Questions - Forms, Kahoot

About This Product
One purchase gives you this Passé Composé vs Imparfait Mastery Bank in every format in the table below, so you stop rebuilding the same quiz for each platform.
Grades 6-12.
Some platforms limit import or assignment features by plan; check yours before purchase.
The listening section is built in, not bolted on: three short narrated passages (summers at a grandmother's house, a Saturday dialogue, and a phone call), recorded with two voices and included as Audio-1, Audio-2, and Audio-3 in the download, each passage already read twice. The eight listening questions test the same contrast by ear, resting on verb forms the ear can separate, time markers, and event content, never on telling é from è alone.

ABOUT THIS BANK
This mastery bank isolates the hardest call in French 2: passé composé or imparfait. All 40 items sit in meaningful past-time contexts where the student decides how the speaker presents the event, not just which ending a verb takes. The written set mixes auxiliary choice (avoir versus être, with participle agreement), completed sequences, background description, weather and states, habits with and without signal words, interruptions, simultaneous actions, the meaning-nuance verbs savoir, connaître, and pouvoir, three mini clozes, and past reflexives in simple cases. Eight listening items across three narrated scripts (summers at a grandmother's house, a Saturday dialogue, and a phone call) test the same contrast by ear. Use it as a unit test, a semester review section, or a diagnostic before the past-tense unit.
Every question carries a one sentence explanation, printed in the answer key and carried into the formats that show feedback, so a miss teaches something on the spot.
Skills practiced: passé composé with avoir, regular participles (questions 1, 2); irregular past participles eu, fait, pris, mis, vu, lu, écrit and ouvert (3, 4, 5); auxiliary choice, avoir versus être (6, 7, 8, and listening 36); past participle agreement with être (9, 10); imparfait formation (11, 12, 13); imparfait for description, weather, time and setting (14, 15, 16, and listening 33); the habitual past (17, 18, and listening 34); completed events and sequences (19, 20, and listening 35, 37); an ongoing action interrupted by a completed event (21, 22, 23, and listening 39, 40); simultaneous actions (24, and listening 38); three mini clozes mixing background and events (25, 26, 27); the meaning-nuance verbs savoir, connaître and pouvoir in the two tenses (28, 29, 30); and reflexive verbs in the past, simple cases (31, 32).
THE FRENCH IN THIS BANK
All French is universal; no regional forms are keyed. Listening items never depend on telling é from è by ear alone, and silent participle agreement is tested only in the written items, where students can see it. Dual-auxiliary verbs such as sortir and monter appear only in clear intransitive uses with être.
WHAT IT TESTS
Passé composé with avoir and regular participles (-er, -ir, -re). Irregular participles keyed: pris, fait, écrit, ouvert, eu, mis, vu, lu, plus su, connu, and pu in the meaning-nuance items. Choosing avoir or être as the auxiliary, and agreement of the participle with the subject after être (feminine -e, feminine plural -es), tested in the written items where students can see it. Imparfait formation from the nous stem, including être and the -cer spelling (commençait). The imparfait for weather, time of day, settings, states, and past habits. The passé composé for finished events and sequences. The two tenses together: an ongoing action interrupted by a completed event, and simultaneous actions. Meaning changes in the two tenses: savoir (found out), connaître (got to know), pouvoir (managed to). Reflexive verbs in the past, simple cases. Listening: eight questions on three narrated passages, testing understanding of past events, descriptions, and habits.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to type the questions in? No. Every format in this download is ready to import or print as it stands. The Google Forms version prints every question with its key, points, and feedback so you can build or check your form line by line.
How do I use this in Google Classroom if Classroom takes no QTI? Use the Google Forms version: build or copy the form, then attach it to a Classroom assignment. The Teacher Guide, Section 5, walks through copying, assigning, closing the form on schedule, and reading results.
What if my platform is not in the table? Start with the QTI file: it is the standard question format that most learning management systems import. One exception worth knowing: Moodle does not take QTI, which is why this download carries a separate Moodle XML file.
Can I split the bank into shorter quizzes? Yes. The QTI and Moodle files import as one bank, and every platform here lets you build shorter quizzes from selected questions after import.
ACTFL connection: This resource is aligned with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, Communities) and the Novice High to Intermediate Low Can-Do statements for Interpretive Communication. Students interpret narrated and written French to show they can understand past-time narration and description: completed events, background and setting, habits, interrupted and simultaneous actions, and preferences in context.
