About This Product

ABOUT THIS BANK
This Spanish 2 Midterm Exam Bank gives you a complete, ready to grade first-semester midterm: 60 questions in import-ready formats, with a real listening section. Five short passages were written for Novice High to Intermediate Low ears and recorded with two voices, each passage read twice inside its audio file. The written section reviews the Spanish 1 core, then works the first-semester Spanish 2 sequence in course order, closing with two culture questions. The contrast itself, choosing between preterite and imperfect in one item, is deliberately not tested here; it is reserved for the final exam, and the EduLingo Preterite vs. Imperfect Mastery Bank, also available in the EduLingo store here on TeachSimple, prepares students for it. Use it as the midterm itself, as an end-of-semester review, or as a placement check for students entering the second semester.
Every question carries a one sentence explanation, printed in the answer key and carried into the formats that show feedback, so a miss teaches something on the spot.
WHAT IT TESTS, specifically:
Listening (12 questions, 5 recorded passages): a daily routine with reflexive verbs and times; a restaurant order with dishes and prices; a last-Saturday narration in the past; a childhood description; a dialogue comparing three watches.
Grammar: ser vs. estar (conditions, location, and the listo contrast: ready with estar, clever with ser); tener expressions (tener calor); ir and the near future (ir a + infinitive); saber vs. conocer; present tense stem-changing verbs (e to ie: querer, empezar; o to ue: dormir, jugar; e to i: pedir); the preterite of regular -ar, -er and -ir verbs; the preterite of ir, ser, hacer, tener and leer; the -car, -gar and -zar spelling changes (busqué, llegué); preterite stem-changing -ir verbs (pidió, durmió); the imperfect in introductory contexts only (age, past habits, weather, clock time, description); reflexive verbs in the present tense (despertarse, cepillarse, vestirse); gustar-type verbs (fascinar, importar, molestar, encantar); comparisons and superlatives (mayor, menor, tan + adjective + como, el más + adjective).
Vocabulary: daily routine; school and home life; food and restaurant (plato, vaso, la cuenta, la propina, el menú, prices); question words; weather expressions.
Culture (2 questions): dinner time in Spain, and paella and the Valencia region.
Note: this midterm deliberately does not test the preterite vs. imperfect contrast (choosing between the two tenses in one item). Each tense is assessed in its own block; the contrast is a final exam topic, and the EduLingo Preterite vs. Imperfect Mastery Bank, also available in the EduLingo store here on TeachSimple, prepares students for it.
THE SPANISH IN THIS BANK
Stems are complete Spanish sentences or short exchanges, with first-use glosses only where a first-semester Spanish 2 student cannot reasonably infer a word (wakes up, orders, main dish, cheapest, boy, tired, means, weekend, where to, noise, jacket, teeth, the same, late, keys, card, backpack, and the verb glosses on the conjugation items). The listening passages use tu forms only, universal Spanish, and high-frequency vocabulary; every distractor in the listening section is a fact actually stated in the same passage, so the section tests listening, not guessing.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to type the questions in? No. Every format in this download is ready to import or print as it stands. The Google Forms version prints every question with its key, points, and feedback so you can build or check your form line by line.
How do I use this in Google Classroom if Classroom takes no QTI? Use the Google Forms version: build or copy the form, then attach it to a Classroom assignment. The Teacher Guide, Section 5, walks through copying, assigning, closing the form on schedule, and reading results.
What if my platform is not in the table? Start with the QTI file: it is the standard question format that most learning management systems import. One exception worth knowing: Moodle does not take QTI, which is why this download carries a separate Moodle XML file.
Can I split the bank into shorter quizzes? Yes. The QTI and Moodle files import as one bank, and every platform here lets you build shorter quizzes from selected questions after import.
ACTFL connection: This resource is aligned with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages (Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, Communities) and the Novice High to Intermediate Low Can-Do statements for Interpretive Communication. Students interpret narrated and written Spanish to show they can understand daily routines, restaurant exchanges, past-time narration and description, comparisons, and preferences in context.
