Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Record basic bibliographic information (title and author) for a poem read in class.
Form and record a personal rating of a poem using a colored star scale.
Identify a structural feature of a poem by determining whether it rhymes.
Reflect in writing on something unique about the poem and illustrate a personal response to it.
Teaching tips
Use the editable Google Slides/PowerPoint version to type responses directly onto the organizer, or print the matching PDF for handwritten responses.
Pair the organizer with any poem your class is currently reading, since the template leaves the title, author, and poem itself blank.
Have students color in the star-rating box, since the field is marked for coloring rather than circling or writing.
Skills covered
Personal response and opinion-forming — students rate a poem and record their opinion using a colored star scale.
Poetic structure recognition — students determine and mark whether the poem rhymes.
Reflective and visual response — students name something unique about the poem and illustrate their interpretation of it in a drawing.
