Sculpture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this sculpture vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our art unit. The kids could make things with clay but had no idea what words like carve, mold, or armature meant when I asked them to describe their 3D projects. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like sculpture, carve, mold, clay, stone, metal, wood, plaster, wire, armature, additive, subtractive, form, texture, space, statue, pedestal, and installation. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the sculpture vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after art class or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether carving is additive or subtractive sculpture. The crossword I use for partners or as a review before a quiz. I added a couple simple hammer and chisel drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one type of sculpture material on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
