Seasons of the Year word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this seasons puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our Earth science unit. The kids knew summer was hot and winter was cold but couldn't explain why or name the characteristics of spring and fall. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like spring, summer, autumn, winter, solstice, equinox, tilt, orbit, sunlight, temperature, harvest, blossom, and hibernation. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they forget "autumn" is another word for fall. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple leaf, sun, snowflake, and flower drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 1st through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick their favorite season and write three things about it on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
