About This Product

This silverware sorting and rolling work task box teaches a real food service and home living job at three levels: sort forks, spoons, and knives, sort by type and size, then roll the right sets in napkins from a ticket.

Why I made this: Rolling silverware is one of the first jobs a lot of my students are given in a restaurant or a school cafeteria, and it shows up at home every time the dishwasher is emptied. It takes sorting, counting, following steps, and keeping things clean. The Re-wash bin and the Supply Note are on purpose, because on a real shift, the right move with a dirty fork or an empty napkin stack is to set it aside and tell someone.

What’s included (23 pages):

- A teacher page, a "why I made this" page, and a 10-minute setup page with a dollar-store materials list

- Level A ●: 12 picture cards to sort into forks, spoons, and knives

- Level B ■: 24 picture cards to sort by type and size (dinner fork, salad fork, knife, teaspoon, soup spoon)

- Level C ▲: 24 roll-up tickets, including 3 Re-wash notes and 3 napkin shortages

- A 3-bin mat, a 5-bin mat, a "How to roll silverware" picture steps page, and a clean-hands page

- Ready and Re-wash mats and Supply Notes

- 3 practice pages, an answer key with self-check codes, a data sheet, and a 10-session accuracy graph

- A try-it-for-real plan with a supervisor check, a generalization page for the school cafeteria, a restaurant, and home, and blank tickets

How I use it: I start with real plastic silverware and the 3-bin mat, then move to the size clues and the 5-bin mat. When students can sort, I teach the 8 rolling steps and the clean-hands rules, and we finish with Level C tickets and a real rolling job in the cafeteria.

Who it is for: Special education, life skills, transition, and vocational teachers in grades 6 to 12 and 18-21 programs, and families working on home living skills.
