Task Cards: ELA Figurative Language - School Theme

Do you need an engaging ELA activity for your upper elementary or middle school learners? This school-themed set of 20 task cards is aligned with English/Language Arts (ELA) standards and will have your learners focusing on FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE. Concepts presented in this product include alliteration, hyperbole, idioms, metaphors, similes, oxymoron, onomatopoeia, and personification. On each card, real-life scenarios about school are presented, along with two choices to help learners identify what type of figurative language is used in the sentences. After choosing which answer best identifies the sentence, learners will use the answer recording sheet to write their answer. This is a wonderful activity to not only get your learners back into the swing of learning, but also get them up and moving. These task cards are versatile in that you can use them indoors or outdoors. They can also be used with individuals, small groups, or large groups. Very little prep work is involved and, if laminated, the cards can be used year after year. In addition to the task cards, an answer recording page is included. Two recording sheets are found on the page. This reduces the number of copies or amount of ink used for printing. All pages of the product are available in a color version and a black & white version. An answer key is also included. PLEASE NOTE: the color version and black & white version are IDENTICAL.
