U.S. Presidents Research Project for Google Slides

Students will conduct research using online and text sources to gather information on a U.S. president.

Students will create a Google Slideshow with 10 slides to explain key information about a past U.S. president.

Students will present their research to the class based on their slideshow.

Play the included presidents-names video and introduce the book What Presidents are Made Of by Hanoch Piven on Day 1 to help students decide which president interests them before choosing.

Have students rank a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice president and draw names from sticks to determine pick order, so it stays likely that no two students research the same president.

Model filling in the graphic organizer using a president nobody chose, so students see how to navigate the source websites before researching their own.

Space presentations across a month with two per day, and collect the rubric from each student as they present, as the plan itself suggests.

Multi-source research — students gather facts from 3-5 books and websites, using the provided source list and citation examples.

Note organization — students sort researched facts into ten fixed categories, from childhood and education to presidency and sources, using the graphic organizer.

Paraphrasing — students turn-and-talk to practice restating researched information in their own words before writing their slides.

Oral presentation — students present their slideshow to the class, sequencing information logically and speaking clearly, per the rubric's Presentation category.
