Winter Olympics word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this Winter Olympics puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our winter sports unit. The kids were excited about the Games but only knew a few big events like skiing and hockey. They had no idea what words like biathlon, curling, or luge meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, skeleton, ski jumping, ski mountaineering, snowboard, and speed skating . I also sprinkled in Olympic terms like gold medal, silver medal, bronze medal, podium, torch, and rings to build that Games vocabulary .

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about which sport is the most dangerous or whether curling is actually a sport. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple torch, medal, and snowflake drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick a sport they'd want to try and write why on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
