World Cup 2026 Pennant Banner – Germany

I created this Germany pennant banner for the World Cup period as a simple classroom decoration. Students often notice international tournaments, so adding a small visual element felt like an easy way to reflect that without changing the lesson plan.

The banner can be printed in color, or the black-and-white pages can be used if students want to color a few pennants first. After cutting, the pieces are connected with string or ribbon. I placed the finished banner along the top of the board, although it also works on a wall or classroom door.

The design is straightforward and doesn’t feel too busy. This makes it suitable for leaving the banner up for several days. Depending on time, the coloring step can be skipped and the colored version used directly.

The file is provided as a printable PDF. Print the pages, cut them out, and assemble the banner as needed. Laminating is optional if you plan to reuse it later.

I’ve used similar decorations during international events, especially when my class were already discussing different teams.

Print only the pennants you actually want - the instruction page assumes a selection rather than the whole run of pennant pages
If you plan to hang the chain on string, leave the top edge of each pennant intact; the instructions specifically warn not to cut it off before punching
Laminating, printing on thicker paper, or gluing the pennants onto cardstock are all offered as ways to stiffen the chain for reuse
Hand out the black-and-white pennants first if you want a colouring session in the run-up to the tournament, then let students punch, thread and hang the finished chain
Brads through punched corners are the alternative to string, and give a flatter chain for a door frame or a board edge

Which parts of the file are in German?

The file runs in both languages side by side. Page 1 is an English cover and page 2 a German one, and the instructions are printed twice - page 3 in English, page 4 as "Anleitung" in German with the same steps and the same two connecting options.

How are the pennants joined into a chain?

Two options are given. Option 1 punches a hole at the top of each pennant and threads a string through, with a note to keep the top edge uncut. Option 2 punches the corners and connects the pennants with fasteners such as brads.

What is the black-and-white version for?

Students colour and decorate it themselves. The cover offers the set "also included in black & white for students to design themselves", and the instruction page adds that students can help assemble and decorate the banner as a classroom activity.
