Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain Teacher Professional Development
A facilitator guide walks teachers or PD leaders through a 15-20 minute 'Information Gap' collaborative activity built around the Ignite, Chunk, Chew, Review framework from Zaretta Hammond's book Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. The kit includes step-by-step facilitator instructions, a completed master copy that serves as the answer key, two complementary fill-in-the-blank matrices (Version A and Version B) that partners use to quiz each other on missing terms, and a post-activity reflection sheet. Participants work in pairs, each holding a different partially blank version of the same four-column chart covering what each phase means, its rationale, its instructional goal, and sample teaching strategies, and take turns describing their information so their partner can fill in the gaps. The activity is designed as a book-study session, staff training, or content review for educators studying culturally responsive teaching practices rather than as classroom instruction for students.
