This is an Ocean Animal Report utilizing the TIDE format. Included in this file you will find a parent letter about the project, prompts for each paragraph, TIDE graphic organizers for three paragraphs of informative writing along with writing paper for the first drafts of each, a blank page for them to create a cover for the report, a page for pictures of the ocean animal, final draft paper, an example of completed organizers and a final draft to match, and a couple of rubric options for both writing and/or oral presentation. The three paragraphs will address: • Why students chose the ocean animal they chose • A few basic facts about the ocean animal (e.g., habitat, diet, physical description) • A few cool or unique facts about the ocean animal Generally, this project takes my students about 4-5 days to complete. The oral presentation takes another day or two. I send home the parent letter a week in advance. I’ve done this with both second and third graders and found it to work well for both. Here’s a further breakdown of the paragraphs: Paragraph One Writing Prompt: Write an informative paragraph explaining why you chose the ocean animal you chose for your report. Paragraph Two Writing Prompt: Write an informative paragraph explaining three basic facts about your ocean animal (e.g., diet, habitat, physical characteristics).
