3rd Grade Math Review Game

3rd Grade Math Review Game
, Grade 3, Activities, Games

This is a 3rd Grade Math Review Game. The possibilities for use of these cards are endless! Rather than give instructions for a single game to play, I thought it would benefit you more if I gave you ideas for how you might use them in your own classroom. We all know that no two classrooms are created equal and I want you to feel the FREEDOM that comes with this set of cards… Brainstorm #1: This is How I use these cards The whole-class format. For one week (usually 4 days) I choose 20 questions per day. I number them and hang them around the room. Each student gets a work mat (included in this pack) on which to solve problems and write answers. Students are allowed 2 minutes at each station (maybe 3 depending on the questions). When all students have reached every station, we go through the problems as a class, discuss possible misunderstandings, and they keep a tally of how many they got correct (for their eyes only). At the end of the week, the students tally up how many questions they got correct so they can bask in their awesomeness. I take the tallies so I can see how they’ve done and reteach what I feel needs some extra attention before the end of school. Brainstorm #2 The classic “Jeopardy” format. Put these cards in an array on the board, separate the kids into groups, each group gets a question, one point for a correct answer… Brainstorm #3 The partner quiz format. Put kids in partners, give them each a stack of cards, they ask each other one question at a time. Whoever gets more answers correct is the winner. Brainstorm #4 Use throughout the year format. Use the cards as a review at the end of each domain. They’re color-coded based on the domain, making it easy to fish out what you need at any given time of the year! Brainstorm #5 Quick thinking problems. Use as students are coming in, as tickets out the door, or during self starters or morning work. Just choose a problem and post it on the board. The word problems are particularly nice for self starters. Brainstorm #6 Make lots of copies in all your spare time (just a little joke, there), laminate them, and put them on key-rings for early finishers to use for practice.

Martin Luther King Jr. was an important leader in the fight for civil rights and equality in the United States. Here are some key points about Martin Luther King Jr. that are easy for kids to understand: Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up during a time when African Americans faced discrimination and segregation, which means they were treated unfairly and kept separate from white people. Civil Rights Movement: King became a leader in the civil rights movement, which aimed to bring about equality and end racial discrimination. He believed in using nonviolent methods, like peaceful protests and marches, to fight for justice. Famous Speech: One of King's most famous speeches is called the "I Have a Dream" speech. He gave it during the March on Washington in 1963. In this speech, King talked about his dream of a future where people are not judged by the color of their skin but by their character. Montgomery Bus Boycott: King played a major role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It started when Rosa Parks, an African American woman, refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white person. The boycott lasted for more than a year and eventually led to the end of segregation on buses. Civil Rights Laws: King's efforts and the civil rights movement led to important changes in the law. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were passed to protect the rights of African Americans and ensure equal treatment. Nobel Peace Prize: In 1964, Martin Luther King Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in promoting peace, justice, and equality. He was the youngest person ever to receive this prestigious award. Tragically, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. However, his legacy continues to inspire people around the world. His message of equality and justice for all races and his belief in nonviolent protest are still important today. Math Student Self Assessment for Any Math Chapter Grades 5-8

Math Student Self Assessment for Any Math Chapter Grades 5-8
Math, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Assessments, Teacher Tools, Templates, Worksheets & Printables

Do you want to teach your grade 5-8 middle school math students how to self assess their own mathematical understanding to help them prepare and study more effectively for upcoming math assessments? Here is the perfect template for you! This Grade 5-8 Math: Student Self-Assessment Tool works with ANY math unit or chapter in the intermediate grades and can be used over and over again all year to help your students practice the vital art of self assessment. How to Use: 1. Start this routine at the beginning of the year, near the end of your first math unit! 2. Go through the sample template with your students so they understand each part of it. 3. Then have your students fill in the template for their own learning in the current math unit to prepare for the upcoming test. 4. They start by filling in the unit name & chapter number. 5. You can provide the learning skills or outcomes that you have covered in the math unit, or you can ask your students to help figure them out. 6 Students then rate their knowledge from 1-5 on each skill or learning outcome. Remind students it is normal that they may be very good at some skills while needing more practice on others. 7. Next, students must come up with a simple personal plan to help practice a skill that needs more review. This will help them to take ownership of their own studying and preparation. 8. Finally, students will fill out 3 concepts or ideas that they have learned during the unit. 9. These self-assessments will make a great learning artifact for conferences and to send home with students at the end of the year to show their learning in math!
