Digraphs SH: Read and Colour

This fun, Read and Color worksheet for SH words is an excellent means of encouraging children to become familiar with a new digraph. The child will be scanning the picture for each word as it is coloured and colouring according to the code given. The child will be thrilled by the finished picture! What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the SH digraph. What do the worksheets involve? An adult should instruct pupils as to how to colour-code the words, by the code given. An adult will need to help with this as the children are not expected to be able to read the colour names. The child should then read the words to an adult (you will want to ensure they get it correct the first time and not make mistakes). The child colours the picture, reading the words and checking against the code to see which colour to each shape. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed and the words colour-coded, although, with children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use As each new blend is introduced the teacher has several aims: The child should be thoroughly familiar with the new digraph - to recognise it wherever it is seen; To be able to track the new digraph in words; To be able to decode words containing the new digraph easily. This fun read and colour activity provides help for all three! Pupils will need as much practice as they can to achieve the three things listed above and for some children, this can be tedious; the teacher must think of creative ways to give as much repetition as needed and to keep the child engaged. This fun Read and Colour sheet is ideal as a new way to engage the child: the child will be reading and re-reading and in doing so may even become familiar with the words, which will aid reading fluency. Sieve of Eratosthenes, 400 numbers

This printable sieve of Eratosthenes is 400 numbers long (instead of the usual 100). The Sieve of Eratosthenes is a good way to find small prime numbers. It goes as follows: 1. Cross out number 1 2. Circle next number that is not crossed out (the first one is 2) 3. Cross out numbers that are divisible by number you just circled Repeat faces 2 and 3 until there are nothing but primes left. This longer version gives interested students a possibility to examine further, how much prime numbers there are when we go further with the natural numbers. (This is interesting, because it kind of connects very simple school math with higher level mathematics. If students want to examine further, for example from Wikipedia, they will realize that the density of prime numbers (prime number theorem) is something that a number of very skilled mathematicians have spent countless hours with. Of course, knowing the first prime number is essential to survive with more complicated fractions in secondary mathematics (or higher). That way, faster students can find all the primes lower than 400 in the same time when some students may be able to find only the smaller ones. Each of these student groups will at the end of the day benefit from it. This one is free! The pdf is not editable and most suitable for printing and then doing with pencil and paper. This goes with different grade levels from upper elementary to high school.

This product covers the 2016 Virginia (VA) Standards of Learning (SOL) 3.17 The student will create equations to represent equivalent mathematical relationships. (note that this will also work for the 2023 VA SOL 3.CE.1 d The student will estimate, represent, solve, and justify solutions to single-step and multistep problems, including those in context, using addition and subtraction with whole numbers where addends and minuends do not exceed 1,000. d) Identify and use the appropriate symbol to distinguish between expressions that are equal and expressions that are not equal (e.g., 256 - 13 = 220 + 23; 457 + 100 ≠ 557 + 100). ) It contains notes pages on understanding and balancing equations. SP Blend Find and Colour Phonics Worksheet to Develop Phonemic

This SP fun, Find and Color worksheet for initial blends is SPlendid for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the SP blend. What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on each worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheets unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature, they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

Here is a simple book to help with the teaching of initial sounds for the very young. It was written for Reading Made Simple, my 100% FREE phonic programme teaching reading and writing, but can bu used with any good phonic programme. Aims and objectives To help children to learn: The sounds that each letter of the alphabet stands for To hear this sound at the beginning of words (initial sounds/beginning sound) To be able to form the letters of the alphabet correctly and link them to the sound each one stands for. What is included: 1 PDF with one page for each letter of the alphabet. Steps and order: Introduce the child to the sound and look for things that begin with each sound. You can use our video to help you to do this. Teach the child to write the letter. Then use the workbook to practice. Each page contains one object from the previous sound. Can th child remember how to write the sound for this picture? Can the child hear that the initial sound is different to that being studied? Assessment The adult should always assess while the child is working and ask: Is the child remembering the sound each letter makes? Can the child hear the correct initial sound?
