A first decodable, informational, phonic reader about oak trees for those just taking off in reading. A simple 8-page book for the young child, or an older one with special needs. This book may contain words with the following sounds: ck, oo, ee, sh, ch, th, ng, ing, ar, or, a-e, i-e and u-e, ai, ea and oa. It can be enjoyed by any child who knows these phonic sounds. It is also part of the Reading Made Simple reading scheme. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. I am an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. Main features: New vocabulary is repeated to aid fluency and build word recognition All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. Pictures do not encourage guessing Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! The PowerPoint has a useful shield to block off text until it is ready to be revealed and a marker to run under the text. Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including special needs pupils with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long is this book? I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. I am an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. Main features: •The Level 1 readers gently introduce sight words, but only those that cannot be learned in a phonetic family, or will be needed before the family has been studied. •All the other words can be sounded out using the necessary phonic knowledge. Pictures do not encourage guessing •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including special needs pupils with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. Though not part of an approved programme they are based on synthetic, very systematic phonics. They are highly structured, repeating vocabulary, introducing sight words slowly and introducing a-e words while practising those listed above that have been learned before. How long are the books? The reading books are either 8 or 12 pages long. Why are these books FREE when other people's books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading. F, V or TH? Game Black/White and Colour version

Here is a simple phonic game to help children distinguish between the sounds F, V and TH. Many children struggle with the TH sound in speech and when spelling. In fact, part of this is the difficulty many children have in saying TH. This game can help. Objectives: ·to help the child to distinguish between the sounds ‘f', 'v' and 'th' in speech and in spelling Who can use the ‘f', 'v' and 'th' game? Any who have a child needing extra practice learning the initial sounds ‘f', 'v' and 'th' Teachers Parents Home educators Private tutors It is highly suitable for special educational needs pupils It can be used with ESL pupils What is included? 18 picture cards (6 of each initial sounds 'm' and 'n') 2 baseboards All components come in either full colour of black and white. The eco print, black and white version is ideal for sending home for homework. Simple to make 1.Print out the pictures and cut them into individual cards. 2. Print out the baseboards. To Play: Do ensure before you begin that the child can correctly say both the blowy TH (as in moth) and the hard TH (as in the). Let your child watch you as you say them, and look in a mirror as s/he says them. 1. Each player takes a baseboard. Vary it each time so that the players get a turn with both sounds. 2. Take it in turns to choose a picture card. Say the word. What sound does it start with? Help the child to emphasise the initial sound if necessary. Let him/her look in a mirror to see the position of the lips and listen for a soft 'f' or a hard 'v'. If the picture belongs on the player’s board it is placed in position. If not it is returned face down. Encourage the other player to try and remember where it is for his/her next turn. This helps in the training of the memory. 3. Play passes to the other player who does the same - until one player completes his/her board. Play then ends and that player is the winner.
