The Southern Colonies in North America, a classroom skit
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities
This play complements the other plays I have on TeachSimple about the colonial era in American History. You can also find the Life in the Middle Colonies and Life in the New England Colonies plays here. My 7th graders have enjoyed these for years. However, these work well for all grades between 6th and 12th. History comes alive in the classroom when students are using plays and skits. Reader's Theater is a great way to enhance any lesson, including the southern colonies, either to introduce some of the characteristics of this region or reinforce what you have been teaching. There are four roles in this play. It will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. Although the play was created by me it is based on an actual historical figure of that time - Henry Middleton and the Middleton family. The Middleton Plantation still exists in the Charleston area in South Carolina. The gardens he started are still there. All of my skits are written to engage students and get them thinking. This is what I call a "lesson enhancer". It will help add to any lesson on life in the southern English provinces.

Emoji Game-Played like Apples to Apples (No reading required!)
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Education Needs (SEN), Social Skills, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Games
In this resource you will receive a very engaging and fun game played like Apples to Apples. There are 30 different emoji cards and 90 different person, place, thing, event cards. There is no reading required. Anyone over 5 can easily play this game. Directions: One person is the "judge" first. I usually choose the oldest in the group. The judge turns over one of the emoji cards. The other players choose one of their person, place, thing, event cards that best fits with that particular emoji. The judge then decides which one is best and the person who put down that card in the pile wins the emoji and also gets a point. The game continues as the next person clockwise is now the "judge". Each player needs to have 5 person, place, thing, event cards at all times. If they played a card, then on the next round they get another person, place, thing, event card. The discarded/used cards go back in the person, place, thing, event card pile to be replayed in future rounds. There are directions in this product. Uses: This game is great to play for indoor recess, centers, community building, etc. Because this is fully editable, you can choose which emojis you want and which person, place, thing, event cards you want. You can add or delete any of the pictures. You know your students best. I would recommend copying one set for each group of students playing. I also recommend using card stock and laminate for durability. Some of the emojis represented are party, cook, excited, mad, disgusted, poopy, yummy, hot, icy cold, steaming mad, laughing, crying, scared, etc. Some of the situations are disneyland, ziplining, broken window, darth vader, alien, smelly socks, super hero, minecraft person, candy, ice cream truck, the dentist, getting a shot, arcade, go carts, legos, smores, baseball, touchdown, and many more! You will be downloading a pdf with the link to the Google Slides. You will be prompted to "make a copy". Click "yes". And then enjoy!!!

DIBELS (8th edition) Class Analysis & Auto composite (All Grades K-8)
ELA, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Teacher Tools, Assessments
Save time by instantly calculating the composite scores for a classroom. Subtest scores are color-coded and sortable, and aligned with DIBELS risk categories: Blue = Negligible risk (core support) Green = Minimal risk (core support) Yellow = Some risk (strategic support) Red = At risk (intensive support) Filter all of your class results by teacher, subtest, or category (Sp. Ed, ELL, etc.) and see color coded performance indicators for your entire class. This resource will save you a lot of busy-work by automatically finding the composite for each student, and will help with grouping and instructional decisions. For example, does most of your entire class have low fluency scores but high foundational reading scores (Letter naming, phonemic segmentation, nonsense words, etc.)? That would suggest that a class-wide intervention such as repeated reading or sentence repetition might be beneficial. Does the analysis section show that the class is struggling with phonemic segmentation? That would suggest easy bell-ringer activities like the Michael Heggarty books or rhyming, initial / middle / final sound identification, or even phonological awareness skills like compound word segmentation or phonemic segmentation. The color coding feature will help with instructional groupings because you can quickly see which students struggle with which foundational reading skill. It also helps indicate what level of support is needed. If less than half of the class is proficient, is suggests classwide interventions should be a priority. Otherwise, maybe Tier 2 or Tier 3 interventions are a better use of your time depending on the severity of the assessment difficulty and how many instructional resources your have at your disposal. You don't need to waste your valuable time by looking up norms tables or calculating composite scores by hand, because this tool will automatically do all of that for you. Instant calculations, color coding, sorting, and filtering will make your screening data much easier to work with.
