As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. This resource, Kindergarten Health: Prevention and Control of Disease - Coronavirus / Covid-19 Facts, is a great tool to teach about the epic coronavirus that plagued the world in 2020. This unit is suited for first graders in a simple, yet accurate manner to increase understanding of this disease on what is the disease, how it started, how it spread throughout the world, and how society responded to this disease in keeping people safe. There are colored pages and pages in black and white. There are also opportunities for children to read some of the words, learn new vocabulary words, trace sentences, and they will even draw their own "novel" virus. Furthermore, students will gain a better understanding of how they can protect themselves, their families, and friends from other diseases that may affect them in the future. Last, there is a mask that students can decorate to show off their creativity. Topics that are covered for students to complete include the following: *What is Covid-19? *How did Covid-19 start? *How does it spread? *What can you do to be safe? Answers are included on some worksheets and some activities are differentiated for all young learners. A total of 12 worksheets are included in this packet. There are seven units that cover all the health requirements for Kindergarten. Writing is a skill that students often need thorough supports with. Any time we can implement a detailed writing lesson, we are able to see how beneficial it is to our students. This is an Argumentative Writing Lesson that allows student to learn new knowledge, practice their writing skills and show what they know. The objective is for students to write a 5-paragraph argumentative essay with the use of counterclaims to support their argument. This resource was designed for middle and high school students. This presentation will begin by: --Teaching students about the 4 elements that a good argumentative essay needs. --Students will learn about the two ways to place counterclaims in a 5-paragrph essay. --Following a flowchart for deconstructing essays. Two argumentative essays are included in the presentation that will allow students to analyze the components they have learned about thus far. Students task is as follows: “Health Canada is considering banning all food advertisements that are targeted to children and youth up to age 17, that promote unhealthy or non-nutritious foods. You are asked to identify whether you agree that unhealthy, or non-nutritious, food advertisements should be banned from all places that interact with children and youth up to age 17. This would mean on television channels that are usually seen by children and youth, websites that are visited by children and youth, and magazines that are targeted towards children and youth.” The following slides will allow students space to organize their thoughts from beginning to end.
