Día de los Muertos Reading Comprehension Passage and Craft Activities for Grades 4th to 7th What’s inside? I created this resource with grades 4th to 7th in mind because I wanted something that makes cultural learning easy to understand, but still interesting for older elementary and middle-grade students. While designing it, my goal was to give students a chance to read, think, discuss, and create - all in one meaningful lesson. This resource includes: A reading comprehension passage that compares Día de los Muertos (Mexico) and Shradh (India) A small set of Día de los Muertos vocabulary words Pictures of both Día de los Muertos and Shradh ceremonies to support understanding A simple mask-making craft activity A scrapbook/collage project for team work A certificate you can award to students when they finish Resource features I wrote the passage to help students notice how both traditions honor their ancestors in different ways. The vocabulary list gives students a quick introduction to important terms before reading. Pictures of both traditions make the topic easier to discuss, especially for students who are seeing these celebrations for the first time. The mask-making activity gives students a fun way to connect with the lesson through art. The scrapbook/collage project encourages team work, creativity, and discussion. The activities and wording are age-appropriate for grades 4 - 7. Clear instructions are included so teachers, parents, and homeschoolers can use it without extra preparation. What is Included: Alphabet Mazes - There are two alphabet mazes, one for capital letters and one for lowercase letters. Students will go through the maze by coloring or dotting the candy corn from A to Z. Apple Emergent Reader - There is one emergent reader where students will read about the trick or treaters. Missing Letters - The student will write the missing letter in each letter sequence. Alphabet Cut and Paste - Students will cut out the lowercase letters and glue them next to their corresponding capital letter. Letter Sort - Students will sort letters by whether they are capital letters or lowercase letters. Prewriting Lines - There are two prewriting worksheets. In the first worksheet, students will trace straight lines in a variety of directions from left to right. On the second worksheet, students will trace a variety of lines from left to right, including curves and zigzags. Letter Tracing - There are 6 handwriting worksheets for students to practice writing capital letters and lowercase letters. Three worksheets are for capital letters and three worksheets are for lowercase letters. Syllable Counting - Students will sort Halloween themed pictures according to how many syllables are in each word. These worksheets make great independent practice, emergency sub plans, and can even be used for homework. The variety of different worksheets give students amply opportunities to work on literacy skills. These Halloween themed worksheets are no prep. The teacher just simply needs to print out the desired pages and hand them to students to complete. It’s time for apples, pumpkins, and all things Autumn! Your grade 3 and grade 4 learners are going to love transitioning into the Fall season with these fun and engaging ELA worksheets and activities. These preschool worksheets focus on number recognition, number formation, counting, picture addition, graphing and comparing numbers. What is Included: Number Mazes - There are two number mazes for students to color or dot the numbers in order to complete the maze. One maze is for numbers 1 to 10. The second maze is for 1 to 20. Roll and Cover - Students will roll a die and then cover the apple that matches the number rolled. Build It Up - Students will use counting cubes or other stacking manipulatives to build to the number on each apple. Counting Cut and Paste - Students will count the number of objects on each line then paste the correct number next to the pictures. Five and Tens Frames - Students will color the five or tens frames to show the number represented on each apple. Picture Addition - Students will glue the answers to each picture addition problem in the correct spot. Apple Graphing Worksheet - Students will count the pictures and then color the graph with the appropriate amounts. Missing Numbers - Students will write the missing numbers in each number sequence. Comparing Numbers - Students will count the objects and determine which group has more or less. Number Order - Students will glue the numbers in the correct order from 1 to 10. Shape Tracing - Students will trace each shape. Number Tracing - Students will trace each number from 1 to 9. Roll and Cover - Students will roll a die and then color one of the pictures above the number rolled. They will repeat until one column is completely colored in. Apple Graphing Class Activity - Each student will color their apple with which apple they like the best (red, yellow or green) and then they will great a class graph with their apples. Apple Basket Counting - Students will color the correct number of apples in each basket. These worksheets make great independent practice, emergency sub plans, and can even be used for homework. These apple themed worksheets are no prep. The teacher just simply needs to print out the desired pages and hand them to students to complete. The number mazes, roll and cover page, built it up page, tracing number pages and missing number pages can be laminated to create a reusable write and wipe activity.
