Learn to Write Letters

This is a first, simple 'learn to write' book teaching letter formation linked to beginning sounds for young children. Learning to write and learning to read go hand in hand, and this book was designed to bring the two together right from the very start. Rather than practising letter shapes in isolation, each page anchors the letter to a picture and a sound, so the child is always connecting what they see, hear and write. Order and steps: Each page has a picture of something that begins with the sound to be practised. The child can colour the picture while thinking about the sound it begins with. The letter is then practised first in lower case, then in upper case, and finally alternating lower and upper case, so the child gets plenty of repetition without it feeling repetitive. Red dots indicate where each letter starts, and arrows show the direction of travel on the first letter of both the upper and lower case rows - useful for parents and teachers who want to be sure they are guiding the child correctly from the outset. Finally, each page finishes with a simple question, encouraging the child to think of other things that begin with that sound, and stretching their spoken vocabulary a little further each time. By teaching the letters alongside their letter sound, we make the learning of phonics truly multisensory - seeing, saying, and writing all working together to help the sound and shape stick. The book is sized perfectly for little hands, making it easy for young children to hold and manage independently as their confidence grows. What is included: 1 PDF. There is one page for each letter. Printing and paper Each page is A5 size. Print 2 pages per A4 sheet and either fold and staple (if you print as a booklet, flip on the short edge), or cut into 2 pages. Spring is Here! is a great resource for students to practice alphabetizing words, writing paragraphs, and even illustrating to welcome the spring season! This resource is divided into three activities: a. The first activity is for students to practice alphabetizing within the context of the flowers and spring. There are 14 words to be alphabetized and then to write the number of syllables in each word right next the word. b. The second activity if for students to write a paragraph about spring, using at least 4 words from the list on the first page. c. The third and last activity is for students to illustrate and color the paragraph with a drawing about spring. Students can present their original paragraphs in different ways: Oral presentation, posters, digital slides, brochures, etc. And they also can be required to turn in this resource! This resource Spring is Here! was designed for middle school students, however it can also be used for high schoolers. Students may work independently, in pairs, or in groups. If students work in groups, make sure each student has their part of the research assigned so that everyone does their part in completing the research project. Create-A- Superhero Mission Narrative Writing Challenge

Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Kids love super heroes and getting to put themselves in a super hero's shoes is a dream come true for many kids! This activity gives kids the chance to choose their task, super power, and color scheme. Then they're off on their mission! Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun!
