Narrative Writing Workshop

Narrative Writing Workshop
ELA, Writing, Grade 2, 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Students love to tell stories - especially about themselves! Helping students learn how to put these stories in a well-organized format can prove challenging for them from time to time. Because of that, we want to be intentional about what lessons we are teaching and how engaging we are making these lessons. The more specific and step-by-step we can make the process, the better. This is a Narrative Writing Workshop that was designed for 2nd and 3rd grade students following the Common Core standards for narrative writing. In this packet you will find everything you will need to help your students complete beautiful personal narratives based on their own experiences. It includes steps for a prewrite, a first draft, proofreading and editing, an example of a finished narrative, a final draft, and a review of dialogue and how to write it. (I also used a wonderful dialogue bundle created by Teacher Treehouse, which I highly recommend for practice.) There is also paper for the prewrite and final draft. This workshop took me about 4 days to complete, using the time we would usually reserve for our reading program – about an hour to an hour and a half every day. If you have time at the end, it’s fun to see how they illustrate their narratives and/or give them an opportunity to type their narratives on the computer. If you can print them out - even better! You could even compile all the narratives into a book for the students to enjoy in their free time! I hope you enjoy! Chemistry Bell Ringers Unit 4 - 45 Daily Warm-Ups (Grades 9-12)

Chemistry Bell Ringers Unit 4 - 45 Daily Warm-Ups (Grades 9-12)
Chemistry, Science, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

These chemistry bell-ringers give high school students a calm, consistent way to begin class. Unit 4 gathers 45 short prompts on solutions, acids & bases, energy, rates & nuclear, arranged as nine weekly pages a teacher can hand out each Monday and collect on Friday. Each day asks something different. Monday introduces a term and asks students to use it, not just recite it. Tuesday supplies two or three sentences of real chemistry and a question that can only be answered by reading them. Wednesday poses an analysis problem or a short calculation, worked the way a chemist would work it. Thursday is a quick multiple-choice check a teacher can scan in seconds. Friday asks for a claim supported by evidence, which is the reasoning skill the standards care most about and the one students get the least practice with. That variety keeps a daily routine from going stale while still reinforcing solutions and solubility, concentration and molarity, acids and bases, pH and neutralization, exothermic and endothermic reactions, reaction rates and collision theory, equilibrium and Le Chatelier's principle, oxidation and reduction, and an introduction to nuclear chemistry. The quantitative prompts were written deliberately so that every answer resolves to a clean number, which keeps a warm-up to five minutes and keeps the key beyond dispute. Everything is print-first: a clean PDF that copies well, uses little ink, prints two-sided so a full week fits on one sheet, and needs no student accounts, devices, or logins. A complete answer key covers all 45 prompts, and a standards page lists the NGSS high school physical science codes and the CCSS literacy in science codes the set actually addresses. Designed for grades 9-12, the prompts work as a daily opener while attendance is taken, as an exit slip at the end of the period, as spiral review before a test, or as ready-made work to leave for a substitute. Teachers who want the whole course can buy the full-year set of 180 prompts, of which this unit is one quarter.

Adding & Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers

Adding & Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Subtraction, Grade 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

We are always searching for engaging ways to teach our students new skills and review skills that they already know! This is a 1-page worksheet that will allow students enough practice to sharpen their skills. Students will practice with Adding and Subtracting Positive and Negative Numbers. The objective is for students to be able to understand the difference in the rules and apply them effectively to a variety of problems. This worksheet is most appropriate for 4th grade students. You may have 5th grade students who need the additional practice. There are 2 pages included broken down into 4 sections. In the first section, students will: Solve each addition problem. If the numbers have the same SIGNS (e.g. negative + negative) your answer will be NEGATIVE. In the second section, students will: Solve each addition problem. This time, the signs are DIFFERENT (e.g. negative + positive)! If the signs are different, instead of adding them, you SUBTRACT them. To determine whether the answer is positive or negative, you look at the BIGGEST number in the question. If it is negative, the answer is negative; if it is positive, the answer is positive. In the third section, students will: Solve each subtraction problem. Remember to turn subtraction questions into addition ones (when the starting number is smaller than the number you are taking away) and move the subtraction sign next to the last number (e.g. 2 – 8 becomes 2 + -8). In the fourth section, students will: Solve each subtraction problem. Remember, DON’T attempt to do subtraction questions SO turn them into addition ones (e.g. -7 - -3 becomes -7 + --3). When you do this, you get a negative and a negative. A negative and a negative is always a positive so -7 + --3 becomes -7 + 3. You can easily print and laminate these pages, so they retain their durability for repeated use. Students can write answers with a dry erase marker. This will make a great math center or small group activity. This worksheet set is also great as an assessment . Answer key included. I hope you enjoy!
