About this resource
What's inside this resource
Cap turns into cape on the first page of this a_e phonics set, and children see that the e at the end is silent while the a says its name. Three picture rows follow, where children check cake, gate or snake from three look-alike words, and a sort splits game, bag, name and tap into short a and long a groups.
Page 2 asks children to add silent e to tap, mad and can, then change one letter at a time to turn game into three new words. On page 3 they check the word that finishes each sentence, such as plate or plane, and draw and copy one of those sentences. A short story, Gabe's Game, gives practice finding a_e words, answering two questions and explaining why Sam gets the cake. Page 5 brings new words to read, two dictated words to spell, a sentence to write and one word to fix.
