Action Verbs word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this action verbs puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our grammar unit. The kids could tell me things they do every day but had no idea that those were called action verbs. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like run, jump, hop, skip, swim, climb, throw, catch, kick, hit, draw, write, read, eat, drink, cook, clean, wash, sleep, wake, laugh, cry, talk, yell, and whisper. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the action words finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "sleep" is really an action. The crossword I use for partners with picture clues. I added a couple simple running, jumping, and sleeping stick figure drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers act out three verbs for a friend on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
