CLEP Spanish with Writing Practice Exam: 100 Questions, Audio, Writing

About This Product
The CLEP Spanish with Writing exam is new enough that most students walk in without ever having taken a full rehearsal in its format. This is that rehearsal: one complete, timed practice exam built to the published blueprint, with recorded listening audio, an explained key for every question, and writing tasks scored against rubrics and annotated samples.
Grades 11-12. Spanish 3 and 4, and college Spanish 1 to 2 review.

THE EXAM, SECTION BY SECTION
Section I. Listening: Rejoinders (13 items). One short spoken line per item, four printed responses. The lines test the moves a listener makes in the first seconds: offers of help, time versus price versus place, telephone formulas, invitations and polite refusals, and answers to hypothetical questions with the conditional and the imperfect subjunctive.
Section II. Listening: Dialogues and Narratives (27 items over 9 audio texts). Four dialogues and five single-voice texts, including a voicemail from a dental clinic, a hotel reservation, a radio announcement, a museum talk, a job-offer conversation, and local radio news. Questions test detail, speaker attribution, purpose, inference, and stance.
Section III, Part A. Discrete Sentences (17 items). Ser and estar, preterite and imperfect, por and para, direct object pronouns, reflexive verbs, formal commands, comparisons, and the subjunctive in noun, adjective, and si clauses, including sequence of tenses with the imperfect subjunctive.
Section III, Part B. Cloze Passages (20 items in 4 passages). Narrative, newsletter, blog, and present-tense fiction passages, each blank testing a different feature: tense choice in narration, agreement with infinitive subjects, subjunctive triggers, and purpose with para.
Section III, Part C. Reading Passages (23 items over 7 texts). A classified advertisement, a student email to a professor, a local news article, a travel blog, a program brochure, an original literary excerpt, and an opinion column. Questions test detail, procedure, tone, idiom in context, main idea, and the author's stance.
Section IV. Writing (2 tasks). Task 1: reply to a friend's email, at least 60 words in 10 minutes, answering her three questions and asking one of your own. Task 2: a presentational composition, at least 100 words in 20 minutes, with a point of view, two reasons, an example with particulars, one difficulty or opposing view, and a conclusion.
THE AUDIO
Every listening text is recorded, and the files are the exam: play each file once, in order, and do not pause. Inside each file the text is read twice and the answer pauses are built in (10 seconds per rejoinder question, 24 seconds per dialogue or narrative question), so the recording paces the section the way a proctor would. The full listening runs 34 minutes 29 seconds as recorded. College Board states about 30 minutes of listening for the real exam; the recorded total here runs longer because of the double reading. The scripts of all 22 listening texts are printed in the teacher file, so you can follow along or read a text aloud if a file will not play.
SCORING THE WRITING
Each task is scored with a house rubric of four bands (4 to 1) on content and grammatical accuracy; the task band is the lower of the two ratings. Five scored samples show the bands at work: compositions at bands 4, 3, and 2, and emails at bands 4 and 2. Every sample carries a coverage check against the prompt, both ratings, the reasons it is not one band higher or lower, and a complete error log, so students see exactly which errors cost them. Four retake prompts (two emails, two compositions) are included for second attempts, and a scoring record page closes the section.
READING YOUR RESULTS
The score interpretation page explains the real exam's 20 to 80 scaled score, and is plain about what a practice set cannot do: this product does not convert practice results to the scaled score, because the real conversion depends on equating across test forms. Instead it shows students how to read results by section and by tier, and gives a classroom summary percentage built from the exam's published weights (75 percent multiple choice, 25 percent writing).
What the scores may earn, per the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations for Spanish with Writing: a scaled score of 50 is Level 1, recommended for 6 semester hours; a scaled score of 65 is Level 2, recommended for 12 semester hours. College Board also publishes B-level scores for this exam (58 and 71), which the score page explains so a college's B-level policy does not confuse your students.
ACE credit recommendations are guidelines provided by the American Council on Education. Colleges and universities establish their own score cutoffs, credit award amounts, and course equivalencies. Credit is not guaranteed and is subject to the policies of the receiving institution.
WHICH EXAM IS THIS FOR?
This practice exam matches CLEP Spanish with Writing only. It is not a practice set for the older Spanish Language exam: that exam has no writing, far more reading and listening, and different section weights. The teacher file ends with a one-page comparison of the two exams (format, time, weights, credit levels), so you can point every student at the right test.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the listening audio really included, or is this scripts only? Recorded audio is included: 24 MP3 files, ready to play. The scripts are also printed in the teacher file, as a backup and a study aid.
Can I run it as a Google Form instead of on paper? Yes. The download includes a Google Forms version of the 100 multiple-choice questions (quiz mode, 1 point each, feedback on every question). The Forms file in the download prints the copy link on page 1; make your own copy, then assign it. Listening items in the form name the MP3 to play, so students still use the audio files. The writing tasks stay on paper, scored with the rubrics.
Will this tell my students their CLEP score? No practice product can. The real score comes from equating across official forms. What this gives you is a full rehearsal in the real format and timing, an explained key that teaches from every miss, and section and tier results that show where to study next.
Who is this for? Teachers, tutors, and homeschool instructors preparing students for the CLEP Spanish with Writing exam: Spanish 3 and 4 students, heritage speakers with formal study behind them, and dual-enrollment or homeschool students aiming at college credit.
How long does a sitting take? About 110 minutes, like the real exam: the recorded listening with its answer pauses, about 50 minutes of reading, and 30 minutes of writing. It splits cleanly across two class meetings if you stop after the multiple-choice sections.
