Commonly Misspelled Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this commonly misspelled words puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our spelling unit. The kids kept making the same mistakes over and over on words like "their," "because," and "separate." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using commonly misspelled words like their/there/they're, your/you're, its/it's, then/than, to/too/two, because, said, friend, which, witch, beautiful, February, library, separate, different, and definitely. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the tricky spellings finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "definitely" even though they say it all the time. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple red X and checkmark drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write five of their own commonly misspelled words on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
