About this resource

What's inside this resource

Here is a 2nd grade curriculum map for a September–June year of ELA, math, science and social studies, built around 40 monthly plans. Each plan gives a short learning sequence and a suggested piece of evidence, from a story retelling in October to a line plot with questions in April math. Math works through place value to 1,000, clocks and money, measurement and equal shares. Science explores materials, heating and cooling, land and water, plants and animals. Social studies builds a classroom community and moves to nearby places, community work and a local history question.

Open the Excel workbook to adapt it. Year Map holds the month-by-subject grid, Unit Plans holds all 40 sequences with support and revisit notes, and Coverage Audit shows which grade 2 expectations each month schedules. Ongoing Skills, Local Review and a Source Register round out the six sheets. The 12-page PDF is the same year in a readable format, including a worked example of turning a student response into a next-step plan.

  • Grade 2: ELA, math, science and social studies in 40 monthly plans
  • 12 PDF pages: calendar, two pages per subject, coverage review, recurring routines, and versions and local decisions
  • Three files: a full-color PDF, a print-friendly black and white PDF and an editable Excel workbook (.xlsx) you can adapt

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Plan a full grade 2 year across four subjects with a month-by-subject grid.

  • Use each month's suggested evidence to decide on reteaching.

  • See which grade 2 expectations are scheduled and which still need a home.

Teaching tips

  • Adjust the week counts in Year Map before editing plans; June is set to two weeks as a starting point.

  • Use the worked example on page 11 as a model for turning one student response into a next-step plan.

  • Fill in local social studies requirements in Local Review so the whole team sees them.

Skills covered

  • Month-by-month pacing for grade 2 across 36 instructional weeks.

  • Evidence planning: each plan names a concrete product, such as a labeled model or a recount with time words.

  • Coverage review: the workbook lists the grade 2 expectations each month schedules.
