Energy Technology word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this energy technology puzzle set for my 4th graders during our STEM and Earth science unit. The kids knew about electricity but had no idea what words like solar, wind, or turbine meant when we talked about how we get energy. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like solar, wind, turbine, battery, renewable, nonrenewable, power, energy, fuel, and generate. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the energy tech vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether solar energy works when the sun isn't shining. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple solar panel, wind turbine, and battery drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one renewable energy source on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
