From the author

Guess the Emoji! - Movies is a great resource for your students to demonstrate their knowledge about movies through matching the emojis.

This Guess the Emoji! - Movies was designed for students in high school

This Guess the Emoji! - Movies may be used as a group activity. Students may complete it individually, in pairs, or teams. The actual worksheet may be divided into sets as well so that each pair of students or teams may identify a section of the listed emoji clues.

The Guess the Emoji! - Movies resource contains four puzzle pages and four answer pages. One page has a total of 16 emoji clues for students to identify the movies they represent. These clues are organized in two columns of 8 logos in each. The four answer pages come with the same clues, but also with the names of the movies.

This Guess the Emoji! - Movies is a ready to print and use resource. It can be paired with other classroom activities, or simply as a curiosity resource.

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Interpret a sequence of emoji symbols to identify the movie or show title it represents.

  • Use self-checking against a matching answer page to confirm or correct an emoji guess.

Teaching tips

  • Note that the fourth page is kids' TV shows (Thomas and Friends, PAW Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants, and others), not movies, if a strictly movies-only session is wanted.

  • Assign the three movie pages and the one show page as separate rounds so students aren't switching category mid-set.

  • Pair each puzzle page immediately with its matching answer page for quick self-checking or group review.

Skills covered

  • Visual clue interpretation -- students decode a sequence of emoji icons to identify a specific movie or show title.

  • Pop-culture recall -- students draw on familiarity with well-known movie and show titles, from Coco to SpongeBob SquarePants, to make a correct guess.
