Least Common Multiple word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this least common multiple puzzle set for my 5th graders during our number theory unit. The kids could list multiples but had no idea how to find the smallest one two numbers shared, which made adding fractions hard. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like least common multiple, LCM, multiple, common multiple, smallest, shared, both numbers, list, skip count, find, denominator, common denominator, add fractions, subtract fractions, and compare. Examples include LCM of 3 and 4 is 12, LCM of 2 and 5 is 10, LCM of 4 and 6 is 12. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the LCM concept finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about why LCM is important for adding fractions. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple number line and skip counting drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers find the LCM of 4 and 5 on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
