Mean Median Mode Range word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this mean, median, mode, and range puzzle set for my 5th graders during our statistics unit. The kids kept mixing up which was which no matter how many times I explained them. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like mean, average, add, divide, median, middle, order, sort, mode, most often, range, subtract, smallest, largest, and data set. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the four terms finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether you always have to put numbers in order before finding the median. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple number line and arrow drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 5th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers find the mean, median, mode, and range of 5, 10, 15, 15, 20 on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
