Ordinal Numbers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this ordinal numbers puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our math unit. The kids knew "first" and "last" but had no idea what "fourth," "tenth," or "twentieth" meant when lining up or placing things in order. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using ordinal words like first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, and last. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the ordinal names finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "twelfth" is spelled with an F or a V sound. The crossword I use for partners with position clues. I added a couple simple race car and line order drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write who is first, second, and third in line in the classroom on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
