Place Value Hundreds word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this place value hundreds puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our math unit. The kids understood tens and ones but got lost when I introduced the hundreds place. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like hundreds, tens, ones, place, value, digit, thousand, expanded form, standard form, word form, base ten, block, flat, rod, unit, and period. Examples include 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and numbers like 134, 256, 379, 482, 507, 610, 745, 893, and 999. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the three-digit place value finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about what the zero in 507 stands for. The crossword I use for partners with base ten block clues. I added a couple simple flat square, stick, and dot drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the expanded form of 462 on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
