Place Value Thousands word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this place value thousands puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our math unit. The kids understood hundreds but got overwhelmed when I introduced thousands, ten thousands, and hundred thousands. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions, comma, period, place, value, digit, expanded form, standard form, word form, and greater than. Examples include 1,000, 10,000, 100,000, and numbers like 3,482 and 24,571. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the larger place value finally click.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how many thousands are in ten thousand. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple place value chart and comma drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the number with digits for "five thousand two hundred eight" on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
