Possessive Nouns word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this possessive nouns puzzle set for my 3rd graders during our grammar unit. The kids could write "the tail of the dog" but had no idea how to write "the dog's tail" or where to put the apostrophe. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using examples like dog's bone, cat's toy, teacher's desk, mom's car, brother's room, sister's backpack, James's book, children's park, girls' soccer team, and the Smiths' house. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the apostrophe rules finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether James's needs an apostrophe after the S or just an apostrophe alone. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple apostrophe and arrow drawings pointing to ownership but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write three possessive phrases like "the book of the girl" as "the girl's book" on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
