I made this skip counting puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our math unit. The kids could count by ones but had no idea what skip counting meant or how to count by twos, fives, or tens. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using skip counting sequences like 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20 (twos) and 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50 (fives) and 10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100 (tens). Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the skip counting patterns finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about what number comes after 18 when counting by twos. The crossword I use for partners with number clues. I added a couple simple frog hopping and number line drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the next three numbers when skip counting by 5s starting at 15 on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
