The Holocaust word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this Holocaust puzzle set for my 5th graders during our World War II unit. This one I handled carefully because the topic is heavy. The kids had heard the word but didn't understand what happened or why we study it. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Holocaust, Nazi, persecution, Jewish, concentration camp, ghetto, Anne Frank, diary, survivor, liberation, remembrance, never forget, justice, and human rights. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to introduce the vocabulary with sensitivity, not graphic detail.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they ask sincere questions about what happened. The crossword I use for partners with a lot of discussion beforehand. I kept drawings simple — a candle and a yellow star — nothing violent or upsetting.

Works for 5th grade only for this topic. Print and go but only after proper class discussion. Sometimes I have early finishers write one word that represents hope on the back. The kids handle this with respect.
