Types of Rocks word search, scramble and crossword

⭐I made this types of rocks puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our Earth science unit. The kids kept forgetting which rock was which even after we did the Starburst rock cycle demo. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic, basalt, granite, limestone, sandstone, slate, marble, and pumice. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to drill the vocabulary without boring them.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search is good for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they mix up "sedimentary" and "metamorphic" constantly. The crossword I save for partners. I added a couple simple rock drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I ask early finishers to pick one rock type and list two examples on the back. The kids actually like these.
