US Customary Units word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
I made this US customary units puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our measurement unit. The kids used inches and cups every day but had no idea how the units related to each other, like how many feet are in a yard or how many pints are in a quart. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like inch, foot, yard, mile, ounce, pound, ton, cup, pint, quart, gallon, convert, compare, length, weight, and capacity. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the customary system finally stick.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how many feet are in a yard. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple ruler, scale, and measuring cup drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write how many quarts are in a gallon on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
