Here's an easy, no-prep partner game for your unit on expressions, graphing, variables, tables, and patterns! How to Use: Simply project the expressions on the interactive whiteboard and students become an input output machine (speaking in a robotic voice is, of course, optional). They secretly choose an expression and calculate outputs for their partner's inputs. This is great mental math practice too! There are two levels of difficulty to help all of your students participate. Level one expressions are one step (adding, subtracting, OR multiplying). Level two expressions are two step (multiplying AND adding or multiplying AND subtracting). Teacher Instructions: o Project these tables on the interactive whiteboard. o Students work in pairs. o One member starts as the “expression machine.” They secretly choose an expression from either table. o Their partner tells them an input number. They put it into the expression and say what the output would be. o Play until the partner can guess what expression they chose. Then switch roles. Grades to use with: This fun math game could work well in classrooms with students in grades 5-8. It could be an introduction to algebra in the younger grades or a warm-up for older students. Need to connect with your kids with their pop music through general music? Involve them in bucket drumming with Taylor Swift's smash hit "22" There are three all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 3 or 4times). Then, apply it to drums! Number Bonds 1-30 Bingo - Boards 1-5

Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing number bonds to 30 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on number bonds for numbers 1-30! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white. Use these activities in conjunction with the Telling Time to the Hour with Tom Turkey Activities and Worksheets or as stand-alone learning games. Three of the games focus on identifying both analog and digital times while matching each to their partner. If your learners are still working on identifying color words, they’ll get practice in one of the activities. Read CVC short a words

Wouldn't you love to get your students excited about reading? Through this engaging and interactive Powerpoint presentation, your class can easily learn and practice CVC words with the short a sound. This fun activity can help teach them multiple reading skills like blending, letter sounds, and matching the sounds we read to the picture we see- and with its colorful visuals and simple instructions, you can't go wrong! Simply put the Powerpoint into presentation mode and watch the car move from the first letter to the second letter to the third letter. As the teacher is clicking to go to the next slide, students should be making the letter sound that corresponds with the location of the race car. In the 4th slide of each word, an arrow appears showing students the word they read. Reading CVC words is an important strategy when introducing many phonological awareness skills emerging readers need to learn. CVC words follow the simple pattern of consonant-vowel-consonant and make it easier for students to transform individual letter sounds into short and simple familiar words. The short vowel sounds are the foundation of fluent reading. When students begin learning letter names and sounds the first vowel sounds we teach them are the short vowel sounds. The CVC short a words students will read in this activity are: can, jar, bat, cat, hat, rat, jam, and bat (like the baseball bat). RF.K.2d Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme words (CVC words). RF.K.3b Associate the long and short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels. This Iguanas reading comprehension with lesson plan includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. "The Boston Tea Party" - A History Play

If you teach about the Road to Revolution in your class, this is a great way to get your students involved and engaged when you reach the Tea Act of 1773 and the Boston Tea Party 1773. Having students reenact history is an excellent way for them to "experience" what events were like. This is a great example. This play was written using eyewitness accounts and other excellent sources including information from the Boston Tea Party museum. If ever in Boston it is a must do! You even get to throw the tea overboard as a guest of the museum! It was a ton of fun. Bring the Tea Party to life in your classroom with this play.
