A lonely monster with a round face, short arms, long legs, and a huge nose cannot work out why he has no friends - until another monster sits down beside him and they discover they both love drawing, reading, and skating. The tale runs twice through the storybook: the full Spanish version, El Monstruo, comes first, followed by a matching English retelling, The Monster, so readers can move between the two languages scene by scene. Along the way the Spanish text works through descriptive and emotion vocabulary - tímido, cómico, solo, triste - plus recognisable cognates such as lógico, dramático, perfecta, and música, and simple spoken dialogue when the two monsters meet.
