This activity is a Syllable Sort Activity Pack. Pocket Chart Activity Students will say the word and determine if it has 1, 2, or 3 syllables and place it in the correct column. Materials Needed: There are a set of color cards to print as well as a header and column numbers for the pocket chart It is best used with a pocket chart wide enough for three columns. Worksheets: The first worksheet includes pictures for students to look at and determine how many syllables are in the word. The words are one, two or three syllables long. The second worksheet also includes pictures for the students to look at and determine the number of syllables except this time they color in the appropriate number of boxes. Again, the words are one, two or three syllables long. The worksheets can be used for formal assessments, homework, morning work or independent work. The pocket chart activity is perfect for literary centers or other individual or partner work. There are no answer keys available for these activities.

Classification of Living Things – Lab Station Activity

This fully editable Lab Station Activity on the Classification of Living Things is meant to get your students out of their seats and engaged in the content. Each station not only offers a unique opportunity to test your students' knowledge (offer an opinion, answer questions based on a video or reading, draw, etc.), but also provides a fantastic learning opportunity where your kids are learning through assessment. Each station comes with a description card while some also contain more detailed instructions, a reading, questions to answer, etc. Students are equipped with a recording sheet (passport) to write their answers. There is almost no prep for you. Simply print the cards, lay them out around the room and you're all set. An answer key is also provided where applicable. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This lab activity covers: - The Classification of Living Things - The 7 Kingdoms - Taxonomy ---------------------------------------------- Bonus Activities: To ensure your students don’t have any downtime between stations, your lab also includes a 10-word word scramble and word search, both with an answer key. You can use them as part of their mark, as a bonus so it’s not mandatory, etc. However you choose to use it, it will ensure that your students are always busy and never idle. Note: For stronger classes, I give the word scramble and for weaker ones, the word search. ----------------------------------------------- How do the Lab Stations work? Each station is specially designed to be a unique complement to the material while at the same time, provide a valuable learning experience. Below is an overview of how each station works. In your activity , each will be tailored to the specific content. Station 1: Get Hands-On – using their creative skills, students are required to draw or build. Station 2: Research – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must research a specific question/issue surrounding the topic. Station 3: Explain yourself – students write down an opinion to a question in paragraph form. Station 4: Rest Station - students can use this time to catch up on work they didn't have time to complete at a previous station or prepare themselves for an upcoming one. Station 5 - Applicability reading – students read a short passage from an article, website, etc. which directly connects the classroom content to a real life application. Station 6: Test your knowledge – students answer 5 multiple choice questions then provide a written explanation for how/why they came to their conclusions. Station 7: Learn from the expert – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must watch a short video clip and answer the associated questions. They may stop, rewind and restart as often as they like during the time frame. Station 8 - Rest Station. Station 9: Become the question master – Students must create 2 multiple-choice questions, 2 true/false questions and 1 short answer question. Topics are varied and are accompanied by colorful graphics. Topics are meant to educate, yet entertain the modern student. These passages are perfect for the modern classroom. Whereas textbooks can become outdated in no time, any changes to technology or the world will result in updates to this product. Mixed Questions The mixed questions section of each lesson includes a variation of five comprehension, vocabulary and math questions. In addition, key reading strategies are frequently covered including cause & effect, summarizing, compare & contrast and making conclusions. Two or three of the questions will be MCQs and other questions will require a written response of some kind. Full answers and example responses appear at the end of the lesson. Spelling & Vocab Each reading passage contains a variety of words and phrases designed for Grade 4-5 students. Spelling and vocab activities provide the opportunity to build fluency with these words. As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Activities include: spelling games, sentence match-ups, mixed-up text and decoding words from the lesson. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Just for Fun Each lesson will have a bonus extension exercise. This is something fun to extend the lesson with. You can find these at the end of each lesson, titled Just for Fun. Colour a Robin

Here is an original drawing of a Robin for young children to colour. The study of the natural world is the foundation for the later study of science. The colouring of pictures of natural things, be it plants or animals is more than a pastime activity. It is a means of familiarising young children with these everyday subjects. The colouring of this Robin picture can of course be used as a pastime, or even as part of a creative lesson - the picture looks super framed or made into a seasonal card - but it has the potential to teach much more. The UK National Curriculum for Science expects children to be taught to use the local environment to study plants and animals, throughout the year. What better than to use familiar subjects - such as the Robin, which is a familiar subject throughout the year, to teach much about the natural world? Colouring can help children to become familiar with the parts of the Robin: ask questions: What colour are the wings? What does the Robin use to eat? How many legs does the Robin have? Colouring a picture of a Robin can also help children to become familiar with the characteristics of this bird - its beak shape and plumage colourings, for example. It is best if children colour the Robin picture either following a sighting of a Robin or from reference books. Who is this colouring picture of a Robin for? Anybody.
