Regents Global 9 CRQ "Christians Persecuted, Fall of Rome" + Video Lessons This product is a constructed-response question (“CRQ”) in the format of the new New York State Regents examination in Global History and Geography. The CRQ calls upon the student to examine historical sources (I use exclusively primary sources) by providing historical or geographic context, identifying the point of view, intended audience, or purpose of a document and then using the two documents in either compare-contrast, cause-effect analysis, or turning point identification. I advocate a strategy of assigning one CRQ in each unit of study in grades nine and ten without access to notes. I used this as one of the tests at the end of a unit of study. I would tell students about what kinds of documents would appear and what historical context they should be able to recall in advance. It is a challenging task for them. The first challenge for novices is to understand what it means to provide context. Faced with the question “What is the historical context of this document?”, beginners will retell what the document says. The reason for this mistake is that, since they were little kids, teachers have asked them to relate what a text means to prove they understood it. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Just for Fun Each lesson will have a bonus extension exercise. This is something fun to extend the lesson with. You can find these at the end of each lesson, titled Just for Fun. Finances and Record Keeping Lessons | Life Skills Unit includes 7 lessons for basic finances. Have students create a Life Skills notebook to file away useful information for their future as you learn about necessary life skills. Each lesson includes a page outline that can be used as a discussion guide or handout for students. Some lessons have a practice template or form for students to practice filling out. There are 3 homework sheets. Hopefully these will provide a good framework for your life skills lessons. This resource was designed for high-school age students but have been used for younger students as well as adults. Hopefully these lessons will help you teach your students how to manage their money and budget responsibly as they enter into independent adult life! How To Use This: Just decide which parts of the lessons you want to use and print enough materials for each student. Use the lesson guides to teach or have the students study from. Then have them complete activities in class, individually or in pairs. Additionally, the activities can be sent home as homework. This I-E Digraph decodable reading book + matching PowerPoint + 11 supporting worksheets is in a series that can help children with special needs pupils develop reading fluency. Each book has a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for various settings. This book is set in Saxon England. The Jack Stories, of which this book is one, introduces one phonic sound at a time, and subsequent books build on the vocabulary of the books before, constantly revising and reviewing learned sounds. Irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. Science of reading aligned. Based on the most up-to-date phonic research. These books should be read sequentially as they tell one long story, each telling a part. This book contains words with the following sounds: CK: OO, EE and SH and CH, ND & NT Endings, TH, AR, OR, A-E and I-E. The series of books can also be purchased as a growing bundle with a scope and sequence - one file, less clutter! This series has been written with the aid of one of my pupils, aged 8. He has drawn some of the pictures. What makes this phonic reading programme for special needs different? · It has its own, easy-to-download and print phonic reading books, making it accessible to many children worldwide. · Each book carefully builds on the vocabulary of those that have gone before, providing much repetition, without relying on predictable text. · Pictures aid the storyline without encouraging reading from the pictures – i.e. guessing. · The vocabulary is based on phonic families, which are introduced in a carefully planned way. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to a minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. Worksheets to support the development of reading fluency The worksheets take the pupil from hearing the new sound in words, developing phonemic awareness, to reading passages in preparation for reading the book. It includes the following activities: Spelling Reading Tracking Changing letters to make new words Fluency triangles 3 reading passages A picture of a Saxon long ship to colour A picture of a Saxon man to colour. Are you crazy for pumpkin spice? Is Thanksgiving incomplete without a turkey and stuffing? Does Christmas only feel real after the first sip of eggnog? In this ESL lesson your students will discuss holiday cheer, and how seasonal foods play a part in getting in the mood for the holidays. Students will be given the opportunity to discuss their guilty pleasures as to holiday foods and explain what exactly makes them enjoy the holidays. Does the weather outside need to be frightful and the fire inside delightful? Does Mariah Carey need to be belting from the stereo? Does Home Alone need to be playing on repeat to start the season? Does a trip to a heavily-decorated mall let you know that Santa is coming? Take the opportunity to celebrate the holidays with your students by talking about their holiday traditions. *****Our lessons focus on practical day to day language, while providing an array of vocabulary words that teach students how to speak with a native flair. The design of each lesson plan is to encourage open conversation with students. Our lessons typically follow the same format. Each topic or lesson plan will begin with a series of warm-up questions, followed by an initial introduction of ten vocabulary words, and a fill in the blank in exercise. The second half of the lesson will include an additional series of questions, five more vocabulary words and a post lesson writing assignment. All of this is designed to make the lesson extremely interactive and encourage students to converse freely, while providing vocabulary focused tasks and an engaging topic.
