The kids had heard of some of the big countries, but they had no idea what words like souk, hijab, or habibi meant when we started looking at everyday traditions and cultural practices. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like souk, souq, bazaar, oasis, nomad, Bedouin, mosque, imam, Koran, Ramadan, hijab, abaya, kaffiyeh, falafel, baklava, hummus, pita, habibi, sheikh, and a few more like fellahin and zaffa to show how many layers there are in regional life. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether falafel and hummus are from the same country (they're both from the region, but kids always have strong opinions about food origins). The kids love talking about their pets at home so I figured why not turn it into a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword. Words like dog, cat, hamster, guinea pig, parrot, turtle, fish, and rabbit. Nothing too hard but the scramble trips them up on "ferret" sometimes which is actually funny to watch. ⭐ The PDF is four pages total. Three puzzles and one answer key page that covers all three. Word search is great for quiet time after recess. The scramble works better in pairs because they argue about spelling. Crossword I save for kids who finish early and need something calm. The kids loved using apps but had no idea what words like app, developer, or design meant when we talked about how apps are made. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like app, mobile, screen, icon, button, design, program, code, test, user, and download. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the app vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether designing an app is harder than coding it. The kids had heard of the month but had no idea what words like heritage, tradition, or sovereignty meant when we talked about Indigenous contributions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Native American, heritage, tradition, culture, tribe, land, history, ancestor, respect, honor, and storytelling. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the Native American Heritage vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether every tribe has the same traditions.
