As is known, children who already know their letters are better equipped to understand and then use language much more effectively. This will lay the future foundation for good reading and writing. - Promote reading preparation: You should know that knowledge of the alphabet is a fundamental activity and/or step for literacy and reading. Students who already know letters will be able to begin to associate sounds with letters, which is crucial and fundamental to learning to read. Then, the act of becoming familiar with the alphabet will facilitate the process of being able to decipher words and understand the connection between sounds and letters. - Increase memory: When learning the alphabet you will remember the specific order of the letters. This process will help the development and strengthening of children's memory. In this way, visual memory and sequential memory benefit from remembering the sequence of the letters of the alphabet. - Promote cognitive skills: The alphabet learning process will also involve observation, association and visual discrimination. This set of skills will be essential for the overall development of the child's brain. You can play the traditional matching game or create a non-identical matching game using all versions of the cards . This activity will make students think harder and use their problem-solving skills, making it more challenging and interesting . You can make flashcards that have pictures of animals on both sides, with different versions of the cards . One side of the card could show a real picture of the animal, while the other side could have a drawing , a colored picture or the animal's name . To make the cards last a long time, you can put two boards together with their back sides touching, laminate them and cut them across the frames . These cards can help individual of all ages improve their comprehension, expression and communication skills.

How to Use: Students will get a card for the pile. Students will practice reading the word on the card, using the dots and arrows as a finger guide to reading the word. Once they feel confident that they know the word they read, they will open the card to reveal a picture of the word they read. When to Use: Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these short i words. Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher.
