Community Helpers Construction Workers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this community helpers construction workers puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our community unit. The kids loved watching construction sites but had no idea what words like hard hat, bulldozer, or blueprint meant when we talked about the jobs and tools these helpers use. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like construction, builder, hard hat, vest, boots, bulldozer, crane, hammer, nail, saw, blueprint, and safety. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a crane is bigger than a bulldozer. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple hard hat, hammer, and bulldozer drawings but nothing too busy. Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a construction worker and label one tool they use on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Grade 1 Beginning Sounds word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this beginning sounds puzzle set for my 1st graders during our phonics unit. The kids knew some letter sounds but kept mixing up sounds like b and p or m and n, especially when they had to identify the first sound of a word. They needed extra practice connecting the sound to the letter. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using simple words where each word starts with a different consonant: B (cat), C (cat—oops, that's a C, so I made sure to use words that start with each of the most common consonants, like B: bear, bat; M: man, mat; P: pen, pig; T: top, ten; S: sun, six; D: dog, dig; F: fish, fan; G: girl, gum; H: hat, hop; J: jump, jet; K: kit, kiss; L: lip, leg; N: net, nut; R: rat, run; V: van, vest; W: wet, win; Y: yak, yes; Z: zip, zoo) . I also threw in a few like "quack" and "fox" to cover Q and X . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the beginning sounds finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "bear" and "bat" start with the same sound (they do — B). The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I always have a set of picture cards nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the picture and hear the sound . I added a couple simple bear, cat, and dog drawings but nothing too busy. Works for K through 2nd grade, especially for kids who need that extra visual cue . Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one letter and draw a picture of something that starts with that sound on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Homophone Words word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this homophones puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our vocabulary unit. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like there/their/they're, to/too/two, here/hear, see/sea, right/write, know/no, read/red, ate/eight, flour/flower, knight/night, mail/male, pair/pear, peace/piece, sale/sail, week/weak, and where/wear. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the homophones finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "bear" and "bare" sound the same. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple ear, eye, and flower drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a sentence using one homophone pair on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Native American Heritage Month word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Native American Heritage Month puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our November unit. The kids had heard of the month but had no idea what words like heritage, tradition, or sovereignty meant when we talked about Indigenous contributions. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Native American, heritage, tradition, culture, tribe, land, history, ancestor, respect, honor, and storytelling. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the Native American Heritage vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether every tribe has the same traditions. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple feather, drum, and tipi drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one tribe and one fact about them on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like perimeter, area, distance, around, outside, inside, cover, square units, length, width, side, add, multiply, rectangle, and formula. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the difference finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether you add or multiply to find perimeter. The crossword I use for partners with shape clues. I added a couple simple rectangle drawings with numbers on sides and shaded inside for area but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers find the perimeter and area of a 4 by 6 rectangle on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
