Christmas Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Christmas vocabulary puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our winter holidays unit. The kids loved the season but had no idea what words like wreath, nativity, or gingerbread meant when I tried to broaden their holiday vocabulary beyond just presents and Santa. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Christmas, Santa, reindeer, elf, sleigh, gift, tree, ornament, star, angel, nativity, wreath, gingerbread, cookie, milk, carol, and candle. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the Christmas vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a wreath hangs on a door or a window. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple tree, star, and ornament drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their favorite Christmas tradition on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

The kids had heard of the Army and Navy but had no idea there were six branches, or what words like logistics, intelligence, or infantry meant when we talked about the many jobs that keep our country safe and support the troops behind the scenes . They kept asking what a "defender" actually does, so I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Space Force, soldier, sailor, pilot, marine, defender, military, service, protect, and veteran. I also threw in a few like logistics, intelligence, infantry, and communications because they came up in our conversations about how complex military operations really are . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or as a quick intro to the unit. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about which branch flies planes or whether the Space Force is just a joke (it's not, and the kids always have opinions about it) . The Civil War word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Civil War puzzle set for my 4th graders during our social studies unit. The kids had heard of the war but had no idea why it was fought or what words like union, confederacy, or abolition meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Civil War, Union, Confederacy, slavery, abolition, Lincoln, Davis, soldier, battle, Gettysburg, emancipation, freedom, north, south, and reconstruction. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the key vocabulary finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the Civil War was about states' rights or slavery. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple cannon and hat drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one fact about Abraham Lincoln on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

The kids could name a few jobs like police officer and judge, but they had no idea about the range of careers in law and justice—including paralegals, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and victim advocates—or what words like bailiff, court reporter, and forensic scientist meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like lawyer, judge, paralegal, police, detective, bailiff, court reporter, forensic scientist, prosecutor, and legal. I also made sure to include "advocate" and "justice" because they kept coming up in our conversations about the job of a lawyer and what the legal system is trying to achieve. The PDF is four pages. The kids were fascinated by the small pools of water left behind when the tide goes out, but they had no idea what words like intertidal zone , adaptation , or desiccation meant . They kept mixing up the zones of the rocky shore and couldn't remember which animals lived where . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like tide pool, high tide, low tide, intertidal, barnacle, mussel, sea star, anemone, urchin, hermit crab, limpet, chiton, algae, plankton, predator, prey, adapt, camouflage, exoskeleton, tentacle, tube feet, desiccation, salinity, oxygen, and space . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of desiccation or whether a sea star and a starfish are the same thing (they are, but the kids always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a simple diagram of the intertidal zones and pictures of the animals nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see which creatures live where . Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one tide pool animal from the puzzles and draw a picture showing one adaptation that helps it survive on the back.
