Affixes Worksheets for Prefixes and Suffixes K-2
Eleven common suffixes — including -ing, -ed, -es, -s, -est, -ful, -ness, -less, -er, -ly, and -y — and the prefixes un-, re-, pre-, de-, mis-, and dis- are practiced across four worksheet formats. Students first colour the target affix within given words such as unhappy, review, or teacher, then combine a root word with its affix in writing (pre + heat =) and again using a labeled picture as a clue. A closing worksheet asks students to underline prefixed words and circle suffixed words across nine full sentences, such as Sam has to rewrite his paper. Jennifer Connett of The Connett Connection built the sequence to move from isolating a single affix to recognizing affixes in connected text.
