Camping Trip Writing Challenge | Resilience & Creative Problem Solving
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Grammar, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Camping trips can be an impactful event in a young person's life. They teach efficiency, resilience, and creative problem solving. In this challenge, learners will choose their location, who's camping with them, something surprising that happened, and a lesson they learned! Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders who enjoy learning about space and demonstrating their knowledge of it. By using the included matrix to choose the setting, challenge, and characters in their story, they'll use the freedom afforded them to create something they love. *Note, some learners may require a basic explanation of what stocks, investments, and savings accounts are. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4 extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

Breaking the Big Words | Volume 3, Set 1
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Breaking the Big Words Volume 3 focuses on closed, two- and three-syllable words following VC/V patterns to help younger elementary students master decoding. This critical reading skill builds confidence as emerging readers tackle more complex words. The activities scaffold syllable division using visual supports. Students first break apart new words focusing on a specific syllable type. Next, they break familiar word types to reinforce skills. Finally, they divide words while reading sentences to apply and generalize the strategy. As students progress, the visual scaffolds are removed to build independence. Additional practice reading decodable texts, stories, or content vocabulary boosts generalization. This volume builds success through mastery of each syllable type before advancing. Confident decoders who can break big words are on their way to fluid reading. I welcome any questions at jmorgantchr@gmail.com. I hope your students enjoy mastering syllable division on their reading journey!

As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity . Activities include: spelling games, sentence match-ups, mixed-up text and decoding words from the lesson. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Just for Fun Each lesson will have a bonus extension exercise. This is something fun to extend the lesson with. You can find these at the end of each lesson, titled Just for Fun. Just for Funs are optional. Some you may like, some you may not. Either way, they are there to do with as you wish. For similar downloads and other frees, do check out Cored Group on TeachSimple.
