Scientist Alexander Fleming - Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Version (PDF & H5P) Alexander Fleming – The Accidental Discovery of Penicillin Fact Sheet, Quiz & Interactive Exercises (PDF + H5P) 💊🦠 This 45-minute resource introduces students in grades 7–10 to Alexander Fleming and his groundbreaking contribution to modern medicine: the discovery of penicillin. Many students have heard of antibiotics, but they often don’t know the story behind how the first one was found – or why it was such a turning point in medical history. Fleming’s observation of mold killing bacteria in 1928 led to one of the most important medical advances of the 20th century. To make this topic accessible in the classroom, I’ve put together a short and structured lesson. It includes a clear informational text, a fact sheet, quiz questions with answers, and a creative pair activity. The material is provided in both color and black-and-white versions – ready to print or use digitally – plus an interactive H5P version for digital learning 💻. What’s included: A student-friendly text on Alexander Fleming and the discovery of penicillin A fact sheet to help students identify and organize key information Quiz questions (with solutions) for quick review A creative task where students write their own questions and exchange them with a partner Formats: Printable/digital PDF and interactive H5P version Answer key included ✅ I’ve used this as part of a biology unit on the immune system or microbes, but it also works well in cross-curricular lessons on scientific discovery or health. It’s easy to use, whether for regular lessons, partner work, or independent tasks. 🚀 Download now and bring the legacy of Alexander Fleming into your biology lessons today! 📍 Best wishes, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Changing Negative Self-Talk Into Positive Self-Talk SEL Presentation

Changing Negative Self-Talk Into Positive Self-Talk SEL Presentation
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Elementary, Middle School, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Coloring Pages, Worksheets

In this Google Slide SEL presentation, students will learn how to change their negative thoughts into positive ones. There is a quote at the beginning of the slide show that says "Watch what you tell yourself, you're likely to believe it." by Russ Kyle. The students can share what they think this quote means to them. Then there is an educational slide on the value of changing their negative thoughts into positive ones. Then the students will have 12 slides to practice changing negative thoughts into realistic and positive ones. They can do this as a turn and talk with a partner, whole group instruction, or in their table groups. You can decide the best approach for your students. After they practice 12 different thoughts, the students will participate in an elimination game using a playing deck of cards. You will randomly pull a red or black card and students need to declare which one they think you will pull before you pull it. There are directions on the slide notes. The goal is for them to say out loud to the person next to them about which one they guess is going to get pulled for their own accountability. Ask students to pay attention to their own self-talk during this game. This game is based on luck only. You can play the game as many times as you want as time allows. Lastly, the students will get to color a mindfulness coloring sheet of a brain with their own name on it. You can make as many handouts as you have students in your class. Simply double click on the name and change it to the names of students in your class and press enter. Print off as many copies as you need. Guided Reading Level K - A Guide to Camping (with Lesson Plan)

Guided Reading Level K - A Guide to Camping (with Lesson Plan)
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geography, Social Studies, Health, P.E. & Health, Grade 1, 2, 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments

This Guided Reading Book - A Guide to Camping (Level K) with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: A Guide to Camping Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Health / Outdoor Skills & Safety Primary Topic: Camping gear, activities, and outdoor care Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): K What This Book Teaches Best Explains what key camping gear is and what it’s for (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat). Describes how a tent works using clear details (waterproof cover, poles, metal stakes). Teaches basic camping safety and purpose for a campfire (warmth/light; stones keep flames in one safe spot). Shows how tools support outdoor activities (portable stove and skillet for cooking; binoculars for seeing distant objects; lantern for light; telescope for moon craters and stars). Emphasizes responsibility in nature by packing all items back into a backpack so nothing is left behind and the forest stays clean for animals. Learning Goals Students can identify camping items from the text and describe what each one is used for. Students can explain how a tent is kept up and kept dry, using details from the book. Students can describe why heavy stones are placed around a campfire, according to the text. Students can describe how tools help campers (stove/skillet, binoculars, lantern, telescope) using information from the book. Students can explain what the book says to do when packing up to keep the forest clean. Key Vocabulary From the Text portable — easy to carry from place to place. waterproof — keeps water out so something stays dry. secured — fastened so it won’t move or fall. binoculars — tools you look through to see far-away things closer. telescope — a tool used to see the moon and stars. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What do you think people need to sleep, cook, and stay safe while camping outside? Comprehension questions: How does the book say a tent is held up and kept in place? Why does the book say a circle of heavy stones is placed around a campfire? What does the book say a camper should do when packing up to keep the forest clean? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership.
