Sir James Dewar – A Look at the Scientist Behind the Vacuum Flask Comprehension Activities A short reading and task-based resource for grades 7–10 science classrooms (PDF + H5P) 🧪🌡️ A printable and digital resource for grades 7–10 science and cross-curricular teaching 🧪🧠 This resource introduces students to Sir James Dewar, a Scottish chemist and physicist best known for inventing the Dewar flask – a forerunner of the modern thermos. His work in low-temperature chemistry and physics helped pave the way for cryogenics and many everyday technologies we take for granted today. The material is designed to be flexible and easy to use. It centers on a short, student-friendly informational text and includes structured follow-up tasks that support comprehension and encourage independent thinking. Whether you're working in a chemistry unit or simply want to connect scientific tools to the people who developed them, this resource fits in with very little preparation needed. What’s included: Informational text about the life and work of James Dewar Student worksheet for creating a personal scientist profile Quiz questions to check understanding (with solutions) Two extension tasks for optional pair or individual work: – Students write their own questions – Partner exchange and answer Formats: – PDF (ready to print or display) – Editable DOCX (text only) – H5P version for digital classrooms (text-based, no images) How it works in class: You can use this resource to complement lessons on scientific inventions, energy, temperature, or lab equipment. I’ve also used it when I needed a calm, structured reading activity that students could complete independently. The extension tasks are helpful when you want to build in peer exchange without needing new materials. The H5P format is useful in digital settings and supports self-paced learning. Everything is ready to go – just print, project, or upload. A simple and effective way to explore the link between science history and the tools we still use today. Have fun exploring the world of science with your students! Warmly, Lernfitness Did You Know? Decodable Reading Books: Consonant Blends With a Short Vowel Sound
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, ESL, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

A pack of 12 CVC Words Decodable Phonic reading books Plus 2 matching phonic workbooks to support learning. Created by an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. These books are preceded by our CVC readers , which begin to introduce vocabulary which is revised in these books. They are followed by: Level 1 Set 1: Common digraphs Level 1 Set 2: Silent E Main features: •The Consonant Blends readers only use the words: I go to no •All the other words are 4 letter, decodable words with a short vowel sound and an initial or final consonant blend. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words gradually introduced and repeated, so building confidence and helping children gain reading fluency. 2 matching workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including those with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. They are based on synthetic, systematic phonics. They are highly structured. Can children guess the text from the pictures? NO! Why are these books FREE when other people books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading. What is included? 1 Zip file with 12 reading book PDF files and 2 Workbook PDF files. More! Find a pack of 70 CVC/CCVC/CVCC worksheets here. Culture Lesson: Cultural Norms and Avoiding Stereotypes Worksheets

Culture Lesson: Cultural Norms and Avoiding Stereotypes Worksheets
Social Studies, Psychology, Life Studies, Grade 5, 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Activities, Experiments, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools

Do you want your students in grades 5-7 to learn how to become global citizens who can respect a variety of cultural norms and comprehend cross-cultural differences? Are you looking for a fun way to bring all of these ideas to life? Check out this ready-to-go lesson for your class. This 5-Page PDF is ready to print for your social studies classroom. It includes clear teacher instructions for a fun class simulation where half of your students will act out a new "class norm" (five options are provided such as not raising your hand to ask a question) that the other half of your class won't be expecting. While the simulation is happening, everyone will be working on a three page reading comprehension task. Students will read about cultural norms from around the world (slurping noodles when eating in Japan or nodding one's head to say "no" in Bulgaria). They will imagine how not knowing about the cultural norms in a place where they are travelling could lead to accidental misunderstandings. Students are also taught a simple definition of the concept of stereotypes, and they will think of how they are different from cultural norms. Finally, there is a 1-page reflection with prompts- perfect for after a class discussion. Teacher Instructions: 1. Split your class in two and talk to only one half. 2. Tell them that they will have a new “class cultural norm.” Pick one from the provided ideas. 3. When the whole class is reunited, pass out the reading page & worksheets. Students read about cultural norms and answer the questions. 4. As they work, the selected half will enact their new norm, which will confuse the other half of the class. 5. Once the point has been made, let the other half in on the secret. 6. Have a discussion about cultural norms and give students time to write a reflection about this lesson.
