Fairy Tales Three Little Pigs word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

I made this Three Little Pigs puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our fairy tale unit. The kids loved the story, and the big bad wolf and the houses of straw, sticks, and bricks were always a hit. I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like pig, wolf, straw, sticks, bricks, house, forest, huff, puff, and chimney . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick.

The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "chimney" or whether the brick house was the only one that survived. The crossword I use for partners, and I usually have a set of picture cards of the three houses nearby for the kids who need a visual. I added a couple simple house and pig drawings but nothing too busy.

Works for 1st through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their own house for the little pig on the back and label it with one of the materials from the puzzle. The kids actually ask for these now.
